Vergal Educational And Charitable Trust

Our Vergal Trust has been in service for the younger generation, rural students in and around Kancheepuram for the past 15 years, we are working in Kanchipuram town and surrounding areas in the field of education, enabling the children from the oppressed and deprived communities to go to school and complete the school education. Presently we are reaching out  to 420 children at Kancheepuram and other districts in Tamilnadu every year. Our trust is organizing  yearly residential camp, with a mission to interact more with our students, to understand them better, so that we support them in a right way and to share with them all the right things we learned from this world, to help them, guide them. This camp is a very important event in our yearly calendar of events and we cover a whole range of things which includes yoga, academic counseling, learning methods, career guidance, adolescence issues, arts, screening of short films etc. 

We run a psychological counseling centre and 7 education support centers (night tuition centers) , 2 libraries , all cost free to support the rural students regularly. We strive to protect the childhood and enable the children to enjoy the experience of regular schooling. We organize Lifeskills development programme and educational tour annually to nurture the students.

We also did and continue relief work during disasters like 2015 Chennai , Cuddalore flood, Kerala Flood, Ocki Cyclone, Covid Lockdown, by providing groceries , food and other support.

Presently we run 10 programs as under to support the rural students.

  1. Mentor a Student ( School) cost Rs.1800/- per student per annum.

    1.a .Mentor a Student (College) cost Rs.7000/- per student per annum.

  2. Brighten a festival (Pongal, Deepavali, Ramzan) cost Rs.800/- per student for new dress and sweet.

  3. Help for differently challenged (Education and equipments) cost Rs.20000/- per annum.

  4. Help for Medically needed ( Education , Equipment and medicines) cost Rs. 100000/- per annum.

  5. Vergal 100/100 Initiative (Support centres) Cost Rs. 1000/- per centre per month.

  6. Learning by Touring (Transport, Food) Cost Rs. 50000/- per annum

  7. Life Skills Camp (Place, Food, Transport, Study Materials) Cost Rs. 1,00,000/- per annum.

  8. Mental Health Support ( Counselling, Awareness) Cost Rs. 50000/- per annum.

  9. Govt. School Support ( Infrastructure , Teachers Honorarium, Educational Materials) Cost Rs.50000/- per annum or as per need.

  10. Noolagam Pesudhu ( Library Initiative to encourage Reading among Students and Rural People) Cost Rs.30000/- per annum.

Challenges and motivation factors of VERGAL:

Vergal trust registered 998/ 2007, working since 2002, in the district of Kancheepuram for child welfare. We started our work to support Government initiatives of stopping child labour and include them in general stream of education. We started night schools for child labour, conducted festivals of children to mobilize and include them in regular school. Initially started with 12 child labours released from bondage and supported them to finish their schooling. So far 60 child labours released and they have completed schooling working in companies and other sectors.

Challenges faced by  vergal is to make understand parents the importance of education. Our work mainly focuses on development of mental health among rural children and prevention of dropouts. For a healthy society we need mentally healthy children who can overcome hurdles and lead a balance life. To attain this focus we do it by helping with them educational aids, conducting life skills camps for adolescents, running a counseling centre for women and children.

This world is lent to us by children, For a world with caring persons, we need to work with children. Our greatest wealth is good memories, to fill the childhood with memories we organize tours, conduct programs to display their talents, talk to them every day, create quest for science via our educational support centers.

Our achievement is the development of caring individuals, who cares for society and family, and who can lead a balanced life, with the awareness of coping with stress, awareness of empathy, knowledge of decision making, critical thinking, and knowledge on interpersonal/ intra personal communication, with a scientific approach to life.

We organize 3 days residential camp where alternate films, are screened and discussed. Book readings conducted to increase their interest in reading. Storytelling, drawing, play workshops, village visits to know the importance of farming and agriculture. We also involve them in tree plantation, and knowing the medicinal value of plants and the importance of natural food. Ultimately as our motto says it is the victory of society we work for , and not the individual victory. As the race of marks indirectly promotes competition and hate, we are more concerned about development of qualities and progressing together. “ WE SHALL OVERCOME”.

1. Nalini. G, Managing Trustee Vergal:

Educational qualification: M. Sc, M.Phil in Pyschology

Profession : Banker till 2015, Now  a practicing child psychologist,

Interested in social improvement and sharing humanity with fellow human from 8th std, still continuing, has been associating with siragu trust while in Chennai , educational committee member of IBEA school, kurichi pattukottai, then started vergal trust in 2002, for dedicating to the cause of release of child labour working as labours in looms in and around kancheepuram. Total number of child labour release is 60. Slowly the number of children benefitted through education increased from 20 to 430 . 430 children are supported every year now. Now we are supporting the children for education in Cuddalore district also. 11 centres run in cuddalore, 7 centres run in kancheepuram. We run a free counseling centre also in kancheepuram.

2. Mr. Sridhar, Financial Trustee Vergal:

Started as a volunteer of annadhanam to poor and needy, native of Kancheepuram, working in Utech rubber products, Sriperumbudhur, a social activist, associates himself with all good initiatives of Vergal.

3. Mrs. Guna. R, Trustee Vergal:

She is well known as trainer of Trainers in Swach Bharath campaign, elected as ward counselor once doing her services throughout tamilnadu. She has conducted more than 200 trainings all over Tamilnadu for the village administrators, represented Kancheepuram and Tamilnadu in National level Swach Bharat conference.

He works as Manager in a Showroom, dedicates his time in social cause and all initiatives of Vergal.
